back George Cain as our 'Guest Speaker.'
George is a ex-Football League Referee and current FA Coach and Assessor. He has also
been actively involved with our friends and colleges in the Bootle Society.
how Match Officials handled key incidents that had occurred during matches. A key message throughout the
presentation was how being proactive and managing the finer details of a match, such as how free kicks are taken,
can considerably help a Match Official with their match control and to maintain credibility and respect.
The presentation contained a number of illuminating insights drawn from George's considerable experience as
a match official and supporting referee development. He emphasised that the Match Official's main work was
to be done when the ball was out of play and that concentration and awareness is significant at all times. A further
key focus was the importance of teamwork between the referee and all other match officials, with scenarios taken
from the clips leading into further discussion on good practice in this area.
Those present greatly enjoyed the presentation and it was agreed that there were a number of development points
taken that could be taken into our next games as match officials. A vote of thanks was given to George for what was
an outstandingly constructed and delivered presentation.
Those present also discussed a number of topical referee issues, including how the pilot sin-bin scheme for dealing
with dissent was progressing in selected leagues in which it has been trialled during the season.
Our next 'Social Evening' takes place on Thursday 29th March 2018 when our very own Carl Rooney- L.A.M.O
Training Officer and Level 3 Referee will be leading the occasion. We look forward to seeing you then, at 8pm in
our usual location of Christ the King
